  1. Microsoft has made available the XPS Essentials Pack that enables users to print out to the XPS document format and view XPS documents with a stand-alone XPS Viewer. XPS is natively supported already in Windows Vista due to the fact it ships with the.NET Framework 3.0 (which is available as a separate download for Windows XP too).
  2. Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) (previously codenamed Morro) is a free antivirus software created by Microsoft that provides protection against viruses, spyware, rootkits, and trojans for Windows XP, Vista, and 7.
  3. XPS file format is Microsoft to PDF format. The XPS has not taken off like PDF, so you have less software to work with. If you want just to convert to PDF, look on download.cnet.com for free converter.

XPS is a platform-independent, royalty-free, open-standard document format developed byMicrosoft that uses XML, Open Packaging Conventions (OPC), and other industry standardsto create cross-platform documents. XPS was designed to simplify the process for creating,sharing, viewing, printing, and archiving digital documents that are accurate representationsof application output. Using APIs provided by the Windows SDK and the Microsoft .NETFramework 3.0, developers can create Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) applicationsthat take advantage of XPS technologies.

  • By installing the .NET Framework 3.0 redistributable on Windows XP Service Pack 2(SP2) or Windows Server 2003, users of these platforms can open XPS documents usingInternet Explorer 6.0 or later versions.
  • By installing Microsoft Core XML Services 6.0 on Windows XP SP2 or later versions,users can generate XPS documents from any Windows application using the MicrosoftXPS Document Writer.
  • By installing the Microsoft XPS Essentials Pack and Microsoft Core XML Services 6.0 onMicrosoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Server 2003, users can open XPSdocuments in a stand-alone XPS Viewer application.
